Summer Giveaway Ideas

Last updated

Summer is long, so a summer giveaway needs a clear start and end. We use the US default dates: 21 June to 22 September, roughly from the solstice to the equinox. For many shops, school holidays and the 4 July weekend matter more than the exact first day of summer, so adjust the plan to your customers.

We suggest one kick-off giveaway: launch about two weeks before the first day of summer and run it for three weeks. After that, smaller weekly or monthly draws keep things going without a big effort each time.

Summer prizes are easy to picture: anything for the beach, travel, the garden, outdoor food or being active. Prizes that can be used straight away suit the season better than ones that ship in August.

Giveaway ideas

Summer kick-off bundle

Put together a bundle for the first weekend of summer and post it about two weeks ahead. Ask people to comment where they are spending the summer. Every comment is an entry, and the winner is drawn when the countdown ends.

Prize idea: A beach or picnic bundle with a mix of your products.

Picture of your summer

Run a photo contest with one theme a month, such as "the best view" or "the best ice cream". Two or three judges score each photo with the same scorecard. Post the top three each month with permission.

Prize idea: A monthly prize, such as a gift card or a product set, for the highest score.

Summer challenge bingo card

Fitness studios and creators can post a bingo card of summer challenges, such as a sunrise walk, a new recipe or a swim. People post a photo of each square they finish. Everyone who completes a line by the end of August goes into the draw.

Prize idea: A month of classes, a fitness tracker or a kit for the next challenge.

Weekly summer draw

Pick one day a week for a small draw from that week's comments. Keep the prize, the closing time and the entry step the same every week, so people learn the routine. One set of rules can cover every week.

Prize idea: A small weekly prize, such as a voucher, a sample set or a drink.

Questions and answers

Which dates count as summer?

We use 21 June to 22 September, the US default. Many shops plan around school holidays or the 4 July weekend instead. Pick the dates that match your customers and write them in the rules.

How long should a summer giveaway run?

Two to three weeks for one big giveaway. Longer than that and people forget to come back. For the rest of the summer, use short weekly draws.

What prizes work in summer?

Things people can use straight away: outdoor gear, food and drink, beauty products for the sun, experiences and vouchers.

Can I run a giveaway every week of summer?

Yes, with one set of rules that lists each week's prize and closing time. Take past winners out of later draws if you want different winners, and say so in the rules.

Is the first day of summer the same every year?

Not exactly. The solstice and the equinox can fall a day either side of these dates. We keep 21 June and 22 September as fixed dates so the calendar stays simple.
