12 Days of Christmas Giveaway Ideas

Last updated

A 12 days of Christmas giveaway is a series: a new prize every day for twelve days. On this page the series runs the 12 days before Christmas, from 13 December to 24 December, because that is how most shops and creators use it. Every prize is drawn before the holidays, and the last day lands on Christmas Eve.

The traditional twelve days of Christmas run from 25 December to 5 January. If you prefer those dates, shift the plan. The same ideas work, but many people are offline over the holidays and deliveries are slower.

Announce the series about a week before day one so people know to come back. Then post at the same time each day, close each day's entries at midnight, and draw that day's winner the next morning.

Working out the next date…

Giveaway ideas

One prize a day, one post a day

Post each day's prize at the same time every day. Entries for that day close at midnight. Draw the winner from that post's comments the next morning and name them in the next post. Share a countdown so people can see when the next day opens.

Prize idea: Twelve small prizes, such as a single product, a voucher or a digital download, one for each day.

Mystery prize days

Each morning, post only a hint, such as "it's small and it smells good", and reveal the prize at noon. People guess in the comments to enter. A right guess is not needed to win: every comment goes into the draw, which keeps it a draw and not a quiz.

Prize idea: A mix of products and experiences, kept secret until noon each day.

Twelve partners, twelve days

Ask up to eleven local businesses or creators to give one day's prize each, and take one day yourself. Each partner posts on their day too, so every audience sees the series. Agree in writing who runs each draw, who contacts the winner and who sends the prize.

Prize idea: One prize from each partner, with each partner named on their day.

Grand prize on day twelve

Everyone who entered on any day goes into a final draw on 24 December, with one entry for each day they took part. People who came back every day have more chances, which rewards the regulars. Say exactly how this works in the rules.

Prize idea: A bigger bundle or a gift card, announced on day one so people have a reason to return.

Questions and answers

When does a 12 days of Christmas giveaway start?

We use 13 December to 24 December, the 12 days before Christmas. The traditional twelve days start on Christmas Day. Pick one and write the exact dates in your rules.

Do I need separate rules for each day?

No. One set of rules can cover the whole series. List each day's prize and closing time, say whether one person can win more than once, and explain how the final draw works.

Can one person win on more than one day?

You decide. Many hosts allow one win per person across the series, so more people win something. If you do that, take past winners out of later draws and say so in the rules.

How do I keep twelve draws organised?

Keep a simple sheet with the day, prize, closing time, winner and whether they replied. Run each draw with the giveaway picker and paste its proof link into the sheet.
